The Fragrance Foundation: Spotlight on 30 Indie Brands Entering 2012 Indie FiFi Award

What an amazing response! 36 Indie fragrance entries representing 30 brands arrived at the office of The Fragrance Foundation by UPS, FedEx, mail, messenger and even hand-delivered by the perfumers themselves.

Indie fragrance brand entrepreneurs are clearly excited and enthused to participate in the 2012 Indie FiFi Award Category in partnership with Elements Showcase and have the chance to win the FiFi Award along with the $10,000.00 congratulatory check generously sponsored by Givaudan to provide an extra measure of encouragement and support to these talented, creative free-spirits, comments Mary Ellen Lapsansky, Vice President of the Foundation.

The award presentation will take place on January 30th at the Elements Showcase in a fun, festive ceremony highlighting the five finalists and announcing the winner.

Rose oil has an intoxicating and indulgent fragrance, but has something of an innocence about it as well. Roses have long been a symbol of romance, so what better ingredient to focus on for Valentine’s Day – the day for celebrating love and affection.

Lush uses rose oil in lots of their products and not just for its beautiful fragrance, rose is also an excellent skin tonic and has an astringent effect on the capillaries. This reduces redness and gives the appearance of diminishing surface thread veins. It is moisturising and hydrating on the skin, and is good for all skin types, especially for rough, aging and irritated skin. This makes it an excellent ingredient for skincare.

They buy their rose oil from Turkey, from a family run business called Sebat. During harvest time, Sebat employ a large proportion of the village and take in Romany Gypsies, who only stay for this duration.

Ultrabalm is an eco-friendly version of Vaseline and by using rose wax as part of the base, it has allowed Lush to steer clear of petroleum jelly. Blended with candelilla wax and jojoba oil it creates a beautiful, silky soft balm.

British Fragrance Association changes its name to the International Fragrance Association UK

The British Fragrance Association has changed its name to the International Fragrance Association United Kingdom (IFRA United Kingdom).

Lisa Hipgrave, Director of IFRA UK and herself a professional ‘nose’ explains: “This is to bring the identity of the local Association – which is already a member of IFRA – into line with the identity of the worldwide organisation.”

Stephen Weller, the global Director of Communications for IFRA, based in Brussels, adds: “The BFA has long been a member of the international network. But increasingly, the issues and challenges, as well as opportunities, have an international focus. For this reason, changes are occurring across a number of local fragrance industry associations so that the world-wide re-branding will help ensure a consistent approach by the sector across the globe. This signifies so much more than a mere name change: the rationale for this move is of huge significance to members in the UK”.

IFRA UK has also announced its Executive Committee has a new chairman, Tony Dallimore of Phoenix Fragrances and also a new vice chairman, Neil Weaver of Seven Scent Ltd.
